MEDIA CENTER
Letters to the editor remains one of the most read sections of Newspapers. The letters to editor section is a valuable tool for grassroots activists to speak to a greater audience on important issues. Elected officials, candidates and policy makers do read these letters. Additionally both of our local newspapers have online blogs were readers can also leave comments.
When writing a letter to the editor remember to:
- Reference the article in question in your first sentence.
- Keep it short. Many newspapers limit submissions to 200-250 words. Quality not quanity is the name of the game to getting your letter published.
- Be Polite. An angry rant, will rarely get published.
- Use facts. Opinions do get published, but editors prefer concise letters with verifiable facts.
