Watauga has some odd ideas about free speech

Lots of Texans waved political signs for candidates Tuesday.Chris Howe was locked up for it.

In a story that sounds like something from behind the Iron Curtain, Watauga police jailed Howe, 29, for holding a campaign sign on public property. He supported Debra Medina. But it wouldnt matter if he supported Kinky Friedman.

What matters is that an American city has put a man in jail for free speech.Since 2000, Watauga has specifically outlawed political signs on public property. Its part of your typical city ordinance restricting garage-sale signs and other litter.Somehow, police and city attorneys stretched that to arrest Howe for holding a sign.

Simply unbelievable. If any one has doubts about the direction our freedom is heading, you don’t have to look any further than this. In the article, it goes on to say that one city council member wants to ban political T-SHIRTS on public property.

Regardless of who you voted for in this election, it is time that we as a citizenry stand up and stand together and not allow this type of abuse of freedom to take place.

So, who would like my help knocking on doors to support their run for Watauga City Council? :)

I was a witness to this outrage and it was a disgusting abuse of small mindedness on the part of the city of Watagua. When a person cannot hold a placard advocating their candidate (and doing so peacably) we all lose. Watagua’s Mayor – who was at the polling place should have intervened on the part of Medina supporter.
